Minkailu Koroma, a member of the All People’s Congress (APC) Media Team, has denied claims that former President Ernest Bai Koroma was named “chairman for life” of the party. He stated that such assertions were mere assumptions made by certain individuals.

Reacting to a leaked audio recording of the former president, Minkailu Koroma emphasized that there was no betrayal within the party, particularly on the part of M.S. Bangura, a long-standing APC member.

“Ernest Bai Koroma was the chairman and leader of the All People’s Congress, as well as the president of the Republic of Sierra Leone. He was never given the title ‘chairman for life.’ That is just an assumption made by some individuals,” Minkailu Koroma stated.

Addressing concerns about the leaked audio, he explained that it was a heartfelt conversation between Ernest Bai Koroma and a close comrade, M.S. Bangura. He suggested that the recording might have been made by an anonymous third party who was present at the time.

“You can hear voices in the background, meaning people were around. It is possible that when the conversation was taking place, the phone was on loudspeaker, allowing anyone nearby to record. It is also possible that M.S. Bangura himself did not circulate the tape,” he noted.

Minkailu Koroma stated that after carefully reviewing the leaked audio, he found no evidence of betrayal, either from the former president or Bangura. Instead, he urged that the situation be analyzed critically and with an open mind.

The leaked audio has sparked debates within Sierra Leone’s political landscape, leading to various interpretations. However, Minkailu Koroma maintains that there was no internal treachery and that the former president’s remarks were private, never intended for public consumption.
