French Ministry of Sioux City holds closing service to celebrate International Women’s Day
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A Sioux City ministry celebrated women on Sunday to recognize International Women’s Day.
The French Ministry of Sioux City and Le Mars held a closing service and reception on Sunday, March 30 at Whitfield Methodist Church, something the church has done for about seven years.
Whitfield United Methodist Church pastor, Berth Lundula, was one of the women who led today’s sermon.
“It is very important because as a woman, many of us think they cannot make it. But I would like to tell someone out there that we can make it if we have the Lord Jesus Christ,” Lundula said.
This year’s theme was “Women, Get Up and Build.”
Morningside University Professor, Dr. Lawrence Muzinga, said in African culture, they believe in the role of a woman in a marriage and choose to celebrate those women in March.
“Your husband will come with a vision and the wife’s role is to take that vision and make it into a reality, make it happen,” Dr. Muzinga said.
To celebrate women, the ministry gives women the entire month of March to lead all church activities.
“I am proud to lead a ministry that embraces diversity and celebrate our differences in the Body of Christ.” Lundula said. “We gather every Sunday at 2 pm in the Wesley Global Church building in Sioux City, with members from six countries.”
Rev. Dr. Lundula said members come from countries such as the U.S., Haiti, the Democratic of Congo, The Republic of Congo, Togo, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe to worship in their culture and languages.
